Johannes Vermeer was a Dutch painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. He is considered one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age. He produced relatively few paintings, Girl With A Pearl Earring (c.1665) inarguably being his most famous work. 

A captivating painting of an imaginary subject and going by various names over the centuries, Girl With A Pearl Earring became known by its present title towards the end of the 20th century.
