Not far away from us in the hills above Rossendale there’s a smallholding with a herd of goats, an old elder tree, and a hard working family handmaking small batches of natural cosmetics from the ingredients that their land gifts back.

Claire and Jack took a derelict wasteland being used for fly tipping and transformed it into a permaculture farm, restoring the soil health and biodiversity, nurturing the elder tree back to health, and created Herd & Elder, beauty without chemicals with a low environmental hoofprint from their own herd of happy goats.

Hard work has led to success; alongside small independents, Herd & Elder is now stocked in Manchester Museum, The Whittaker, and Forestry England shops.
